Africa: Agriculture, an opportunity for the banking sector

The banking sector in Africa is not interested in agriculture in the opinion of agricultural producers who denounce difficulties in accessing financing.

Banks are in the wrong, says Edoé Djimitri Agbodjan, teacher-researcher in project management at the African Center for Higher Studies in Management (CESAG), saying that agriculture now offers a range of opportunities for banking institutions hence the importance of supporting agricultural development.

On the sidelines of the seminar on the development of inclusive and innovative rural finance products, held from 5 to 10 March in Abidjan, Agbodjan said that "we must develop the agricultural value chain by transforming it, for this we need funding" , emphasizing the interest of banks to accompany agricultural development in the black contains.

The seminar held under the theme: "Developing Inclusive and Innovative Rural Financing Products" aims to equip participants from banking institutions and cooperatives in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea Conakry. and Mali, with specific skills enabling them to develop new financial services in rural areas.
